Orca Bay Mystery Monday

On New Year's Day,
Bonnie from Quiltville gave us what we have been waiting for...the finished design for the
Orca Bay Mystery!!
I love it.  It's really beautiful!

Here are a few of my blocks laid out on the design wall to get a feel for what my version will look like.  Of course it looks different but I love it, too.

Bonnie's layout

I also tried it the opposite way with the green strings along the lighter star and
the blue triangles along the darker star.

What do you think???

Alternate layout

Still some sewing to do on step 5, 6, and 7.
Still piecing
I'm not sure if I will be doing the same border as in the pattern because I don't think I have enough of the neutrals left.   I want to use more green scraps so I am going to have to play around and see what I can dream up.

Today I have been reading all the link ups about Orca Bay. I thought I sewed a lot.  Some gals are already finished with all the steps and have their tops assembled! And they look terrific.
I also like seeing what else everyone is sewing in addition to the mystery.
Thanks for visiting me and be sure to visit all the blog links at http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2012/01/mystery-monday-link-up-part-7-8.html and http://www.patchworktimes.com/2012/01/02/design-wall-monday-january-2-2011/

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy 2012,

Susan

I really like your original colourways. And I think I prefer the first setting. Your quilt looks fantastic!

I like the fabric colors you used. And I like the alternative setting best when I first looked, but after a second look at both versions I decided I like both! Great job!

Your colors look wonderful...both versions! It will be fun to see what you eventually choose! You are way ahead of me...but I continue to enjoy the journey!

I think both look great! The colors are wonderful, like a nature scene, I'm thinking rocky mountains. Very calming. I like it.

Lovely colors! I like the original layout better.

I prefer your second layout as it 'tames' the squareness of the lighter star blocks. Lovely calming colourway :)

I can't wait to see which layout you decide on and how this quilt comes together. It is going to be so awesome. : )

Your colour selections look so good - love it! I think I prefer the second layout but either way it is going to be a gorgeous quilt.

It's been a great mystery hasn't it? I like the second setting, seems to show the traveling bars better.

I really like your alternate setting...your fabrics are muted and it emphasizes the directional better (does that make sense?!) Just read the other comments...ditto what Sharyn says...

Love the color choices! And I'm leaning towards the alternate setting as well, but it looks terrific no matter which you decide! :O)

And I'm with the alternat setting also. Like the others have said, it tames the lighter blocks and helps the diagonal colors to keep flowing.
